Lorna Doone is based on R. D. Blackmore's classic novel set during the reign of King James 11.

John Ridd's (Clive Owen) father is killed in front of him by Carver Doone. (Sean Bean) The Doones are a clan of murderous outlaws, who live in a valley in the West Country, which takes their name, "Doone Valley"

John's need for vengence on Carver Doone for the murder of his father becomes complicated when he meets and falls in love with Lorna Doone, a member of the Doone clan, whom Carver himself seems intent on marrying.

Lorna does not intend to a willing victim to Carver's schemes, and locks herself in her cottage. John, concerned that she has not appeared at their secret hiding place for a number of days, goes in search of her into Doone Valley despite the great risks to his own safety, and brings her home to the Ridd farmstead.

The Doone reprisals are quick to follow.....
